We run Excursion Trains on Saturdays and Sundays from early April through mid-November. Weekday operations start after Memorial Day through the end of September.. Excursion Trains travel the Keystone Route or the McGill Junction Route. The Keystone Route is towards Ruth, Nevada, through the old tunnel. The McGill Junction Route is the recently reopened old mainline towards Club 50 on Highway 93. McGill is always diesel powered; Keystone can be either steam or diesel powered. At the most Engine #93, our steam locomotive will power trains on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday April through October. Please call if steam power is important to you. Steam locomotives are divas: high maintenance and temperamental. We reserve the right to substitute locomotives and cars as needed. We begin our season with White Pine Weekend, April 11 and 12. If you live in White Pine County, bring your ID and ride free. This is the first of two opportunities to ride the train for free. Anyone who brings an item of non-perishable food the weekend before Thanksgiving, November 21 and 22, can also ride free.
Every Saturday at 6:30 p.m. from May 23 through September 12, we will offer one of the following trains. All but the Sunset at Steptoe Wine Train are family friendly!
On the 4th of July at 5:00 p.m., we will have our Annual BBQ in the Plaza followed by a steam powered train ride towards Ruth and back to watch City of Ely's fireworks. We stop the train right next to the White Pine County Golf Course where the fireworks are launched from. The last two Saturdays in September, 19 and 26, at 6:30 pm, White Pine Brewing Company sponsors the Oktoberfest Trains. Like the Sunset at Steptoe Wine Train, this train features alcohol as a drink. Minimum suggested age is 21; please bring ID. If our servers think you are young, you will be carded. Every Saturday in October at 6:30 pm, the Haunted Ghost Train will slip through the night. You'll hear local ghost stories and see the spirits and restless souls as we roll by. The Polar Express departs East Ely beginning on November 26 and continues through December 29. No trains on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, or New Years Day. |
