Be the Engineer!
The Nevada Northern Railway is the premier preserved railroad
in the country. Here you have the opportunity to operate either
a steam or diesel locomotive. You can climb on board as the
engineer and experience what railroading was like in the last
century. Head down to the century old enginehouse and help prepare
your locomotive for the day. Climb into the cab, and learn how
to operate the iron horse. With two toots of the whistle, bell
ringing and cylinder cocks open; watch as the engineer starts
the locomotive moving down the track. You pass through the century
old railroad yard and head for the mainline. At the mainline,
you climb up into the seat and receive instruction on controlling
the iron horse. Then the moment comes, you pull out the throttle
and head down the main. For the ultimate experience, you can
rent both a steam and a diesel locomotive. It doesn't get better
than that, 28 miles of railroading. And it is real railroading.
On the steam branch grades approach 3%. On the diesel branch,
it is a constant 0.4% as you climb above the valley.
So
what are you waiting for? This is railroading as it was in the
last century. Make your appointment with history call

We attempt
to honor requests for rentals of specific steam or diesel
locomotives. However, engine availability is subject to a
variety of both controlled and uncontrolled circumstances;
both steam locomotives are almost a century old and even the
"new" diesels are a half-century old. Ultimately,
therefore, availability is determined by the museum. Please
contact us for details.
